Gophers women’s hockey head coach Brad Frost signs 3-year extension

The University of Minnesota has signed women’s hockey head coach Brad Frost to a three-year extension.

The move, announced Tuesday, will keep Frost on campus through the 2023-24 season.

"I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue to lead this incredible program," Frost said in a statement. "As a staff, we take great pride in developing our student athletes into champions, both on and off the ice. It is a true honor and privilege to work with these amazing individuals every day. I’m appreciative to everyone at the University of Minnesota who trust and believe in what we are doing."

Frost enters his 15th season as head coach of the Gophers this season and holds a 418-87-35 record since taking over the program. After joining the Gophers in 2001 as an assistant coach and later holding the interim head coach title during the 2007-08 season, Frost was named the program’s second head coach on April 16, 2008.

"Brad is a proven leader and an excellent coach," Director of Athletics Mark Coyle said in a statement. "Our expectations are extremely high for our women’s hockey team and under Brad’s guidance, the program annually contends for conference and national championships. I look for that to continue with Brad at the helm."

Frost’s lengthy resume includes leading the Gophers to four national titles, nine NCAA Frozen Four appearances, seven WCHA regular season titles and four WCHA Final Faceoff championships. Frost has been named ACHA Coach of the Year twice and WCHA Coach of the Year four times. Under his guidance, the Gophers have posted seven seasons with 30 or more wins and accomplished the NCAA’s first-ever perfect season (41-0) in 2013.

In his tenure as head coach, Frost has coached 15 Gophers to a combined 25 All-America honors. He has seen 10 Gophers represent their countries as Olympians and 14 named Top-10 Patty Kazamaier finalists, including Amanda Kessel who won the award in 2013.
