Gophers settle for series split after 3-2 loss to Minnesota State

After beating Minnesota State 4-1 Friday night in Minneapolis, the Gophers men’s hockey team fell 3-2 to the Mavericks Saturday night in Mankato.

The Gophers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period on freshman Jimmy Snuggerud’s 4th goal of the weekend.

Campbell St. Cichosz tied the game at 1-1 in the second period and Josh St. Groll gave Minnesota State a 2-1 lead early in the third period. The Gophers quickly answered when Mason Nevers scored just over a minute later tying the game at 2-2.

Ryan Sandelin scored the game-winning goal for the Mavericks with just over six minutes remaining in regulation.

The Gophers host North Dakota next weekend, while Minnesota State is at home against Minnesota Duluth.
