Gophers win Big Ten regular season title; beat Wisconsin 8-0
A Michigan loss to Notre Dame clinched the Big Ten regular season championship for the Gophers men’s hockey team Saturday, but Minnesota didn’t let up on Wisconsin – beating the Badgers 8-0 in the regular season finale.
Minnesota had eight different goal scorers and 11 different players registered assists. Goalie Justen Close finished with his second straight shutout as the Gophers outscored their border rivals 13-0 during the weekend in Minneapolis.
The Gophers have dominated Big Ten hockey since the league has formed, winning five regular season titles in eight years. For winning the title, Minnesota also receives a first round bye in the Big Ten Tournament.
