Gophers improve to 10-0 with 6-4 win over Arizona State

The top-ranked Gophers men’s hockey team improved to 10-0 this season with a 6-4 win against Arizona State Monday night at 3M Arena at Mariucci.

Arizona State scored three goals in the second period to pull ahead 3-2, but Minnesota rallied back for the win.

The Gophers led 2-0 after the first period, but Sun Devils forward Johnny Walker scored a highlight reel lacrosse-style scoop from behind the net to make it 3-2 Arizona State. Minnesota didn’t take long to answer. Sampo Ranta sniped a wrister to tie the game at 2-2 just 1:31 after Walker’s goal. Blake McLaughlin would then score the first of his two goals of the game to make it 4-3 Golden Gophers heading into the third period.

Bryce Brodzinki and Johnny Sorenson were the Gophers goal-scorers in the first period. With Brannon McManus and McLaughlin tacking on goals in the third.

The Gophers’ six goals is a season high.
