Gophers’ Ibrahim named to Maxwell Award Watch List
University of Minnesota star running back Mohamed Ibrahim has been named to the Maxwell Award Watch List.
The award, now in its 86th year, is given each year to the most outstanding player in college football.
Ibrahim is one of 85 players on the watch list.
The sixth-year senior is one of the most-decorated backs in program history, holding at least a share of 10 team records.
The 2020 Big Ten Running Back of the Year suffered a season-ending injury in last year’s season-opener against Ohio State. Prior to his injury, he’d totaled 163 yards and two touchdowns on the ground against the Buckeyes.
Maxwell Award semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 1 before the three finalists are unveiled on Nov. 22. The winner will then be announced on Dec. 8.
Ibrahim and the Gophers open the 2022 season on Sept. 1 against New Mexico State.
