Flanagan survived a 3-hole playoff to win the Genesis Invitational College Challenge at Riviera on Monday, a win that comes with a spot in the PGA’s weekend event.

He made his Tour debut at the 3M Open in Blaine this past summer when he was given a sponsor’s exemption after winning the Minnesota Open by shooting a course record 64 at The Royal Club in Lake Elmo. He did not make the cut at the 3M Open, but rebounded to win the 118th Western Amateur Championship the following week.

Flanagan, a native of Woking, England, is a senior at the University of Minnesota and was a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten and an All-American last season. He was the Big Ten champion in 2019.

He’s ranked 37th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and being considered for the Great Britain and Ireland team at the Walker Cup – the amateur version of the Ryder Cup – this May. He was one of fifteen golfers to make the preliminary practice squad late last year.

Angus tees off at 10:19 a.m. Central Time on Thursday morning as part of a field that includes seven of the top ten ranked players in the world and thirty of the top fifty – including Xander Schauffele, Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas.

Flanagan played a practice round Tuesday with Ryder Cup veterans Alex Noren and Jordan Spieth, who are also playing in this week’s event.
