Gophers center named to Outland Trophy Watch List

University of Minnesota center John Michael Schmitz has been named to another award watch list.

Tuesday, the Gophers lineman was one of 89 players, and one of 18 centers, on the Outland Trophy Watch List. The award is given each year to college football’s best interior offensive lineman.

Schmitz, who was All-Big Ten Second Team last season by coaches and All-Big Ten Third Team by media, was also named to the Rimington Award Watch List last week.

In his collegiate career, Schmitz has played in 44 games and made 23 starts at center for the Gophers.
