The Gophers were pinned deep in their own end after a penalty left the ball sitting on their own 2-yard-line. Quarterback Ricky Foggie handed the ball to sophomore running back Darrell Thompson, and what happened next became one of the single greatest plays in Gopher football history.
Thompson cut to the sideline, hurdled a Michigan defender, then raced 98-yards to the end zone.

The 98 yards Thompson gained on the massive play are counted in the 4,518 yards he gained over his career that leave him still standing as the program’s all-time leading rusher.
Thompson now serves as the radio anallyst for the Gophers Radio Network.
