Girls State Hockey: Proctor/Hermantown’s Watkins scores 5 in Class A Quarterfinal win over Luverne

Senior forward Alyssa Watkins scored five goals, including three when Proctor/Hermantown was skating short-handed, to lead the No. 3-seeded Mirage to an 8-0 victory over Luverne in the second Class A quarterfinal of the Girls Hockey State Tournament on Friday, March 26 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Watkins entered the state tournament with 22 goals and added to that with two even-strength tallies in the first period. She completed the natural hat trick with a short-handed goal early in the second period then added two more shorthnded goals in the third period. She had a team-high 11 shots for the Mirage (19-0). Senior defenseman Ella Anick had a goal and an assist while senior forward Macy Sieger also had two points, both on assists.
Sophomore forward Kamryn Van Batavia paced Luverne (16-5-0) with a team-best five shots.
