Girls Hockey: Lexi Huber’s hat trick helps AA #7 Stillwater past Park

Class AA #7 Stillwater girls hockey maintained their unbeaten record as Lexi Huber’s hat trick was part of a goal-scoring onslaught in a 9-2 win over Park of Cottage Grove on Thursday night.

The Ponies came into the game unbeaten (6-0-1) this season, but saw Park’s Nina Fragola put the upset-minded Wolfpack ahead 1-0 six minutes into the game.
But from there, Stillwater took over. Sydney Schuster scored two goals 2:22 apart later in the first before Myah Krueger’s goal late in the period made it 3-1 Ponies after one.
The first of Lexi Huber’s three goals on the night made it 4-1 early in the second, then Kylie Ligday’s laser from the point found its way through traffic for a 5-1 Ponies lead.
Josie St. Martin dealt a pair of superb cross-crease passes on rushes to both Huber and Morgan Wohlers late in the second to prop Stillwater up 7-1 after two periods.
Huber finished off her hat trick in the third before Addison Finn closed out the scoring.
Ponies keeper Sophie Cronk earned the win making 9 saves while Park’s Isabella Wegele was admirable on the other end turning aside 36 of the Ponies 45 shots on goal.
Huber’s trifecta vaults her into the team lead with ten goals this season. St. Martin, the Ponies co-scoring leader, now has ten assists to go with her six goals. She’s even with Wohlers, who has an even eight goals and eight assists.
Stillwater improves to 7-0-1, Park remains winless in their five games this season.
