George Paton leaving Vikings to be Broncos GM

Long-time Vikings personnel man George Paton has been hired as Broncos general manager. A source told KSTP Sports that Paton has agreed to a 6-year contract.

"In many ways, I feel like this team is a sleeping giant," Paton said in a statement. "For me, it’s the right place and right time for this opportunity."

Paton spent 14 years working for the Vikings, and worked with current GM Rick Spielman going back even further when they were together with the Dolphins.

He was also a candidate for the Detroit GM opening, and interviewed for other jobs in previous years. He got far down the path of being San Francisco’s GM in 2017 before they hired John Lynch.

The big question now is this: Will Paton take any current members of the Vikings’ scouting department with him?
