Q&A: Former Timberwolf Gary Trent Sr. on son’s success with Toronto Raptors

Former NBA forward and Twin Cities resident Gary Trent Sr. spoke with KSTP Sports about his son’s pro success, the Wolves, and whether Kevin Garnett’s No. 21 will ever hang in the rafters at Target Center.

Gary Trent Jr. and his Toronto Raptors team play the Timberwolves in downtown Minneapolis Wednesday night.

Trent Jr. , 23, had a recent stretch where he topped 30 points in four straight games, then last week in a win at Houston, he scored 42 points.

Trent Sr’s son was traded to the Raptors a year ago with Rodney Hood in exchange for Norman Powell. Trent Jr. was rewarded by the Raptors over the summer with a three-year, $54 million contract.

Trent Jr.’s career has reached new levels this season. He’s averaging a career-best 18.3 points while shooting 43% from the field and 39.7% from deep in Toronto.

Trent. Jr. played part of his high school career for Apple Valley before transitioning to Duke.
