Former Timberwolf Ricky Davis to coach Minneapolis North
Former Timberwolves player Ricky Davis is expected to be named the next boys basketball coach at Minneapolis North.
A source told KSTP Sports Friday afternoon Davis would succeed Larry McKenzie, who retired earlier this month after winning six state titles – the last two at North.
Davis, 42, played 12 seasons in the NBA, two with the Timberwolves in 2005-06 and 2006-07. He followed his NBA career playing with teams in China, Puerto Rico, Turkey and France. He also played for two teams in the NBA D-League in an attempt to return to the NBA.
The last few years, Davis has been playing in the BIG3 3-on-3 basketball league and coaching players in a Nike EYBL elite AAU league.
Davis graduated from Davenport North High School in Iowa. He played college basketball at the University of Iowa and was a first-round pick (21st overall) of the Charlotte Hornets in the 1998 NBA Draft.
