Former DeLaSalle coach Dave Thorson coming home to join Ben Johnson’s Gophers staff

New Gophers men’s basketball coach Ben Johnson is adding Dave Thorson to his staff, his coach at DeLaSalle, a source confirms to KSTP Sports.

Sean Paul of USA Today was the first to report the news.

Thorson, who was an assistant with the Gophers 1990-1994, was at DeLaSalle for 23 seasons. He helped the Islanders win nine state titles and coached many well-known players, including Johnson.

Thorson spent the last four seasons working with Niko Medved, both at Drake and Colorado State. He was instrumental in Colorado State landing David Roddy out of Breck, one of the best players in the Mountain West Conference.

KSTP Sports can also confirm that Jason Kemp will be leaving William and Mary to join Johnson’s staff. USA Today adds that Texas A&M’s Jamie McNeilly will be the third assistant on the staff.
