Former Gophers center Daniel Oturu (Cretin-Derham Hall HS) is training hard during the NBA pre-draft process.

Before he leaves for 10-weeks of intensive training at Peak Performance Project in Santa Barbara, our Darren ‘Doogie’ Wolfson caught up with him in his high school gym.

Oturu had an all-conference worthy sophomore year at Minnesota, second team, after leading the Big Ten in rebounding and blocked shots.

The 6-foot-10 Oturu averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds and 2.6 blocks for the Gophers and received first-team All-Big 10 defensive team honors. Oturu is likely to become the first Gopher to get drafted since Kris Humphries in 2004.

Wolfson, on background, texted with three NBA front office officials for thoughts on Oturu. All have him as a first round pick, with one suggesting he’ll go in the Lottery (top-14).

The Draft is expected to take place on October 16, with it being pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Lottery, which helps determine the order at the top of the Draft, is set for August 25.
