Edina takes down Benilde-St. Margaret’s, wins Section 6AA

The Edina Hornets girls hockey team defeated the Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights 4-1 on Friday evening, at Parade Ice Garden Arena.

Hornet senior star Vivian Jungels started the scoring for Edina in the first period to put the Hornets up 1-0 with 10:59 left in the period.

In the second period, Edina junior Lauren Zawoyski scored to put the Hornets up 2-0 with 3:56 remaining in the period.

In the third period, the Red Knights finally got on the board when senior Emma Peschel scored to make it 2-1 Hornets with 11:06 left in the game. But, Edina answered back when Jungels scored her second goal of the game to make it 3-1 Hornets with 8:29 left in the game. Finally, Zawoyski scored an empty-net goal with 7.1 seconds remaining in the game to make it a 4-1 final.

Edina enters the state tournament with a 25-2 record.
