During stay-at-home, GolfTEC develops, offers free ‘virtual’ golf swing lessons

During the stay-at-home order, golf instruction company GolfTEC’s local locations have been closed. But, like many businesses right now, they’ve adapted.

"We’re doing virtual lessons for people," Regional manager for GolfTEC Minnesota Jim McNaney said. "They can’t come see us we can’t come see them. So they send us video we’re doing free video lessons for anybody who wants them. Our guys are excited because they get to do what they love to do which is help people play better golf."

Even as Governor Walz is working to re-open golf courses statewide, GolfTEC plans to continue the free "virtual" swing lessons they’ve implemented.

"This is a way for us to kind of give people a distraction, which everybody is looking for," McNaney said. "We’re all itching to get back out on the golf course and – fortunately golf is one of those sports that you can get better without actually hitting a golf ball."

It’s innovation stemming from necessity. The new virtual lessons are likely to stick around even once courses and GolfTEC’s own centers can open back up.

"I wouldn’t be surprised," McNaney said. "Everything’s going to be evolving. This is unprecedented times, as we all know, for every industry. I would not be surprised to see something like this take the next step and go a little bit farther as we reopen and re-engage."
