Drake beats Gophers 99-66

Minnesota (1-1) played its second and final non-conference game of the regular season Sunday with a 99-66 loss to Drake (2-2) at Williams Arena.

Sophomore Jasmine Powell led the Gophers with 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Coming off a 21-point performance in Wednesday’s season opener, she’s the first Gopher to score 20 points in each of the first two of a season since Carlie Wagner did it in the first four contests of the 2016-17 campaign.

Senior Gadiva Hubbard had 17 points, thanks in part to four 3-pointers. Also reaching double figures was sophomore Kadi Sissoko, who was a rebound shy of her first career double double as she posted 12 points and nine rebounds. She also had a pair of blocks and two assists.

Freshman Caroline Strande made her Minnesota debut with nine points, four rebounds and four steals.

Drake scored the first eight points of Sunday’s game and 19 of the first 24 to take control of the game early. The Bulldogs led 33-17 after one quarter of play, extended the lead to 56-34 at halftime and led by as many as 42 points in the second half.
