The DeLaSalle Islanders football team defeated the Minneapolis Edison Tomcats, 14-2, Tuesday evening at Osseo High School in the Section 4A Quarterfinals.

To begin the game, Edison put together a long drive. In fact, they had the ball for the first 9:30 of the game. But, DeLaSalle forced a fumble, recovered by junior linebacker Amir Everett.

However, on the Islanders ensuing possession, a snap went over junior quarterback Brandon Hoban’s head for a safety. Edison took the 2-0 lead with 1:52 left in the first quarter.

The score would remain 2-0 until the third quarter when Hoban and the Islanders put together a drive that ended with Hoban hitting senior wideout Nile-Jobe Monroe for a touchdown. The Islanders were stopped on their two-point conversion to make it a 6-2 game with 7:08 remaining in the third quarter.

DeLaSalle’s defense was outstanding all night. They held Edison on numerous fourth-down attempts.

Then, Hoban and the Islanders put the nail in the game on a late fourth-quarter drive. Hoban put on a passing clinic, ending with an Everett touchdown catch. DeLaSalle then added a two-point conversion to make it a 14-2 game with 3:44 left.

DeLaSalle would hold strong to make it a 14-2 final.
