Defending 5A champ Chaska dominates St. Louis Park in opener

In the first game since winning their first-ever State Championship last November, Chaska defeated St. Louis Park 44-7 in the 2020 season opener powered by a punishing ground game that turned generated six rushing touchdowns.

The defending champs shot out the gates ready to play. On their first possession, senior wideout Ethan Bachmann caught a long pass to set up a touchdown run by Dewandis Youmans to make it 7-0 Hawks with 9:35 left in the first.

Following a St. Louis Park safety, Chaska’s senior running back Nic Snuggerud had a beautiful long run. Junior running back Jack Boyle finished off the drive with a touchdown run to make it 16-0 with 1:15 left in the first.

In the second quarter, another Bachmann long catch set up Spencer Goetz’ touchdown run to make it 23-0 with 2:49 left in the half.

In the third, Chaska continued their dominance. Senior quarterback Matthew Paul had a long run to put Chaska inside the ten yard line. Then, junior running back Karver Miller finished with a touchdown run to make it 30-0 Hawks with 7:33 left in the third.

Soon after, Chaska blocked an Oriole punt and recovered the ball on St. Louis Park’s 28-yard line. Following the blocked punt, Boyle scored his second touchdown of the game to make it 37-0 Chaska with 3:40 left in the third.

Following another blocked punt, Youmans scored another touchdown run to make it 44-0 Chaska with 1:08 left in the third quarter.

St. Louis Park added a touchdown of their own in the fourth to make it a 44-7 final score.
