Centennial softball rallies to take down Champlin Park

The No. 1 seeded (Section 5AAAA) Centennial Cougars defeated the Champlin Park Rebels 7-2 on Thursday evening at Centennial High School.

The Rebels jumped out to a quick start when shortstop Alyssa Blaska hit a single to load the bases with zero outs in the top of the first inning. Ashley Liveringhouse then was hit by a pitch to walk in a Rebel run to make it 1-0. Centennial was then able to get out of the inning without allowing another run.
In the bottom of the second inning, Maddy Ringen doubled. Pitcher Helene Krage then brought her in with a double to make it a 1-1 ballgame.
Fast forward to the top of the fourth inning, third baseman Lyla Galli hit a single. Pitcher Riley Leonhardt added another single. Then, Erin Reardon grounded in Galli after a Centennial fielder’s choice to make it 2-1 Champlin Park.
Centennial busted the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning. Catcher Bryn Ruberg singled. Outfielder Abby Lohse walked. Ella Fidler proceeded to then hit a two-RBI double to make it 3-2 Cougars. Fidler scored on a Champlin Park throwing error to make it 4-2 Centennial. Krage singled to advance Ringen to third base. Then, Centennial stole second base and Ringen was able to score when Champlin Park threw to second base to make it 5-2 Cougars.
Centennial added some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Emma Hopkins walked. Ruberg singled and Hopkins went to third. Lohse then had an RBI single to make it 6-2. Fidler then had an RBI groundout to make it a 7-2 ballgame going into the top of the seventh inning.
In the top of the event, Krage was able to close it out for the Centennial victory.
