The Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team has been as hot as any team in college hockey. They have an 8-game winning streak and have out-scored their opponents 37-11 over that stretch.
Coach Bob Motzko has seen his team battle adversity this season and feels everything the team has gone through has made them stronger.
“They don’t pay attention to much, whether it’s injuries, teammates going to the Olympics or our starting goalie leaving for the NHL. The players on the team have just gone about their business and have relied on one another to get the job done,” said Motzko.

Minnesota will host Penn State in the Big Ten semifinals on Saturday night. The Gophers have beaten Penn State three of four games this season, including three in a row. In spite of that success, Gophers forward Sammy Walker knows how dangerous the Nittany Lions are.
“I have friends of mine on that (Penn State) team. I’ll give them a little ribbing before the game, but as soon as they drop the puck it’ll be business as usual,” said Walker.
The Gophers are the No.1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. If Minnesota beats Penn State, they’ll face the winner of Michigan vs. Notre Dame on Saturday Mar. 19 for the Big Ten conference tourney title.
