In just eleven seasons as head coach of the Apple Valley boys basketball team, Zach Goring had the kind of success coaches dream of. His teams won three state championships and he sent many players onto college basketball – three all the way to the NBA.

Goring’s NBA trio of Gary Trent Junior and brothers Tyus and Tre Jones were pivotal pieces in his Eagles teams that won state titles in 2013, 2015 and 2017 – and made it to the championship game in 2018, falling only on a last-second basket by Cretin-Derham Hall’s future NBA-player Daniel Oturu. Trent is playing for the Portland Trailblazers, Tyus Jones is with the Memphis Grizzlies and Tre Jones will be taken in the upcoming 2020 NBA Draft.
Apple Valley recently picked Patrick Buchanan to be Goring’s successor as head coach of the Eagles basketball program.
