Anoka’s Trent Palmer reacts to being selected by Blue Jays in MLB Draft

June 11th, 2020 is a day former Anoka HS star Trent Palmer will never forget. His life changed when he heard his name called with the 77th pick of the 2020 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays.
"It was such an amazing feeling," Palmer told KSTP Sports. "I think my dad, my stepmom and my younger sister were more excited than I was. You can’t really describe what you’re feeling, but I’m very happy."

Palmer is a power pitcher who touched 98 mph with his fastball last summer in the Cape Cod League, but he does have other pitches in his arsenal.
"I’ve been working hard on my slider, curve, and splitter that I try to mix up," he said. "I can get my speeds to vary between 83 to 98 miles per hour. I see myself as a calm guy on the mound."

Palmer pitched at Jacksonville University the last three seasons, but it was recent summer league results, which helped him run him up draft boards.
He had a 2.08 ERA in 30.1 innings with 34 strikeouts and just 10 walks in the Northwoods League in 2018, then followed up last summer pitching 18.2 innings in the prestigious Cape Cod League, posting an 1.45 ERA with 21 strikeouts.
