Robbinsdale Cooper football takes down Spring Lake Park

The Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks defeated the Spring Lake Park Panthers 35-7, Friday evening at Spring Lake Park High School.

After a scoreless first quarter, Cooper struck first when senior running back Camden Royal scored on a short rushing touchdown, making it 7-0 Hawks with 11:12 left in the second quarter. 

At the end of the half, senior quarterback Joe Russell then hit junior wideout Key'Von Cager for a 27-yard touchdown catch to make it 14-0 Hawks with 1:15 remaining in the first half. 

Following a Cooper fumble, the Panthers marched down the field and junior fullback Alex Ullman scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 14-7 Cooper with 2:52 left in the third quarter. 

On the ensuing Cooper possession, Royal had a huge run for the Hawks. But, they were forced to a 4th and 12. The Hawks went for it and Russell hit senior wideout Donte Williams for a 36-yard touchdown catch to make it 21-7 Hawks with 26.4 left in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter Cooper put together a long drive that drained the clock. The drive ended when Russell threw his third touchdown pass of the game, this time to senior David Connors, to make it 28-7 Hawks with 6:36 left in the game.
