Class AA Girls Soccer Semifinal: No. 3 Mahtomedi upsets No. 2 Holy Angels

In the Class AA girls soccer semifinal, the No. 3 seeded Mahtomedi Zephyrs defeated the No. 2 seeded Academy of Holy Angels Stars 2-1 at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis.

Holy Angels kicked off the scoring when sophomore Audrey Garton scored for the Stars to make it 1-0 with 24:50 left in the first half.
But, Mahtomedi answered when senior Audrey Barry scored a beautiful goal to make it 1-1 with 18:53 left in the first half. Just minutes later, Zephyr senior Cambelle Waldspurger scored on a corner kick to make it 2-1 Mahtomedi with 15:58 left in the first half.
In the second half, Holy Angels put a ton of pressure on Mahtomedi’s defense, but senior goalkeeper Paige Janssen held strong and Mahtomedi held on for the victory.

Mahtomedi now faces No. 1 seeded Benilde-St. Margaret’s on Saturday, November 6th at 1 p.m. inside of U.S. Bank Stadium.
