#1 Edina girls hockey hangs on to beat Wayzata, advances to state

The #1 Edina Hornets girls hockey team defeated the Wayzata Trojans 3-2 to win section 6AA and advance to the state hockey tournament.

Edina struck first when junior forward Emma Conner scored to make it 1-0 in the first. In the second, the Hornets extended their lead when senior forward Katie Davis scored to make it 2-0.

That remained the score heading into the third period when Wayzata got on the board following a goal from sophomore forward Sloane Mathhews to make it a 2-1 game. However, Edina answered back when junior forward Hannah Chorske scored a beautifuk goal to make it 3-1 with a little over four minutes left in the game.

Wayzata made it interesting when senior forward Sophie Urban scored for the Trojans to make it 3-2 with 1:24 left in the game. But, Edina would hold on to win.

Edina is looking to win its fourth straight state title.
