Wayzata assisted living facility moves dozens of residents because of COVID-19 outbreak

An assisted living facility in Wayzata is moving out its residents because of an outbreak of COVID-19.

According to the Minnesota Department of Health, Meridian Manor, a 50-bed assisted living facility, is relocating 47 residents after a majority of staff and administration became ill with COVID-19.

The MDH stated after consultation with state health officials, it was determined the move was necessary to maintain the residents' level of care. Seven residents were taken to a nearby hospital, 13 others were relocated with family, and the rest were moved to another long-term care facility nearby.

The exact number of confirmed cases at Meridian Manor is unknown.

According to MDH statistics, 26% of all COVID-19 infections in Minnesota most likely occurred in congregate living facilities, and more than 80 such facilities across the state have reported exposures in either a resident, staff member or a contractor.
