Suspect in custody after fleeing traffic stop, shooting at officers north of Twin Cities
A suspect who attempted to flee a traffic stop is in custody after exchanging gunfire with law enforcement Saturday morning in St. Francis.
According to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, a St. Francis police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation around 9:47 a.m. at the intersection of Ambassador Boulevard Northwest and Quicksilver Street Northwest. The vehicle then fled, and the suspect shot at law enforcement several times.
The vehicle crashed near 245th Avenue and 101st Street Northwest in Livonia Township, southeast of Zimmerman. The sheriff’s office said the suspect again shot at law enforcement, and an Anoka County sheriff’s deputy returned fire.
The suspect later left the vehicle, and officers took him into custody without incident, the sheriff’s office stated. The suspect was then treated for minor injuries at a hospital. No law enforcement personnel were injured.
Several law enforcement agencies, including the St. Francis Police Department and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, assisted in the pursuit.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident.
