Surly employees won’t unionize after no majority reached in vote
Surly Brewing Company employees won’t unionize after a majority vote in favor of unionization wasn’t reached, the company said Wednesday.
Surly said the vote was conducted by a third party. The results of the vote weren’t released by Surly but the union noted a majority of the employees who voted did vote in favor of unionization, however, many employees didn’t vote and a majority wasn’t reached.
Employees at the Surly Beer Hall and pizzeria called to unionize on Aug. 31. Just two days later, the company announced it would shut down its beer hall beginning on Nov. 2, citing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Surly said Wednesday that it still plans to close the beer hall indefinitely on Nov. 2.
