Several people arrested after carjacking, chase in Anoka County

What started as a possible attempted vehicle theft turned into a chase through multiple cities and ended in the apprehension of multiple suspects.

According to a release from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, at 9:07 a.m. Thursday, the Anoka Police Department responded to a call about a vehicle potentially being stolen on the 2500 block of Maple Avenue in Anoka.

When officers arrived, multiple vehicles fled the area. One of the vehicles crashed nearby and the occupants fled on foot. Those occupants were located and taken into custody.

The other vehicle continued to flee the area until the tires deflated, which stopped the vehicle. Two suspects in that vehicle then got out and carjacked a nearby vehicle before driving off and leaving the carjacking victim on the side of the road.

The carjacked vehicle fled and led law enforcement through the cities of Anoka, Ramsey and Nowthen before returning to Ramsey, the sheriff’s office said.

The pursuit ended in the 4700 block of Juniper Ridge Circle, where a man and woman were taken into custody. The man was injured during the apprehension by a police K9. Both the man and woman were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

During the pursuit, multiple squad cars were damaged and two officers were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Charges are pending for all the parties taken into custody.
