Rebuilding efforts continue at Superior refinery, project completion now expected in 2022

Rebuilding efforts at a Superior, Wisconsin, refinery are continuing this week.
Hubbard Broadcasting sister station WDIO-TV reports two large towers were brought into the Twin Ports Wednesday night to be used for processing chemicals when the Husky Energy refinery is fully operational again.
An explosion and subsequent fire at the refinery in April 2018 resulted in a state of emergency being declared and thousands of people were forced to evacuate.
Federal investigators reported the explosion was caused by a faulty safety valve and launched debris 200 feet, puncturing a storage tank filled with asphalt that led to additional fires.

The refinery rebuild project is expected to be completed in 2022, WDIO-TV reports, which is a year later than originally planned, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
