On the steps of the state Capitol, a group recognized first responders for working during the pandemic. They also honored active military, veterans, and teachers.

“Thank you, Lord, for first responders, because without them, I am not here today. I literally owe my life to you guys,” John Turnipseed said.

“People that we know that have to work so hard, overworked and overburdened right now. Those law officials that are working out in our streets, those community people that are working in our nonprofits that are guarding our children. This is serious times right now,” said VJ Smith, local chapter president for MAD DADs.

“This Mother’s Day weekend, my wife lost her very best friend; I lost my mother-in-law,” said Dr. Thomas Schmidt. “We couldn’t stay with her at the hospital, but she said that the doctors were great and that the nurses were taking good care of her."
