The Minnesota Lynx are busy this season helping 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS with our Feeding Minnesota campaign.

On Monday Lynx players, coaches and staff visited Matter to assemble healthy snack packs that will be given away to kids this summer.

"I mean, it’s something that we just believe in so much; just giving back off the court" Lyn guard Rachel Banham said. "You know we love all the on court stuff, but we love to give back off the court."

Earlier this summer the Lynx and Timberwolves teamed up with Hy-Vee to ask shoppers to make a donation to Matter at the checkout. They raised nearly $16,000 dollars. It will pay for thousands of snack packs and premade meals.

"We’ve all come from different backgrounds and different walks of life and have been afforded the opportunity to get to help people that need it," Lynx assistant coach Plenette Pierson said. "And it’s important for us as a community to show that we are the Minnesota Lynx and we’re representing the entire community."

The snack packs the Lynx put together will go to Urban Ventures for kids in south Minneapolis.

"It’s awesome," Banham said. "It makes it so much better. We want this to go to families and especially kids who need it. And I think it’s going to families in south Minneapolis where they really, really need it. So it makes it even better."

The need is great. Many Minnesota children and families don’t know where their next meal is coming from. That’s why 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS is Feeding Minnesota this summer. To make a donation, click here.
