Man charged with killing ex-girlfriend, mother of his child in Crystal

A Robbinsdale man has been charged with killing his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child in her Crystal home last week.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that 38-year-old Erik Eggleston is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 29-year-old Nigar Mammadzada.

A criminal complaint states that Mammadzada dropped off her daughter at a babysitter and her mother at her job on the morning of Nov. 12 before returning to her home in the 3500 block of Welcome Avenue to work in her home office. When her mother returned home that afternoon, she found Mammadzada already dead on the floor near her desk.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office listed Mammadzada’s cause of death as multiple shotgun wounds.

Mammadzada’s mother told police she suspected Eggleston killed her daughter because he had the code to get into the attached garage and Mammadzada had broken up with him, the complaint states. She also said Eggleston had been over the night before when Mammadzada was getting ready to go on a date with another man and Eggleston seemed jealous.

Police found Eggleston lying in front of a friend’s house at about 9 p.m. on Nov. 12. He was bleeding from cuts and was taken to a hospital for treatment of wounds for what the attorney’s office said appeared to be a suicide attempt.

After executing a search warrant, police found a shotgun with blood on the barrel inside Eggleston’s car.

His first court appearance is set for Tuesday afternoon.
