Man apparently hit, killed by suspect fleeing police in St. Paul

Authorities say a man was apparently hit and killed by a suspect who fled police early Friday morning.

According to St. Paul Police, officers went to the 100 block of Bridlewood Drive on a report of two people arguing inside a vehicle. After finding the vehicle, officers learned the man gave them a false name and then determined he had multiple felony warrants.

When officers tried to take the man into custody, a struggle ensued and he was able to run away. Police said the man then stole a warming vehicle on the 200 block of Bridlewood Drive.

Officers decided to not pursue the vehicle but heard a crash a short time later, police said. When officers checked the area, they found the crashed, stolen vehicle at the intersection of Valleyside Drive and Parkland Court, and also found an unresponsive 55-year-old man lying in the street, apparently struck by the vehicle.

Police rendered aid to the victim and set up a perimeter to locate the suspect. However, medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene and the suspect wasn’t located.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office and St. Paul Police identified the victim as Brian S. Reed, of St. Paul.

An investigation is ongoing.
