Detroit Lakes man sentenced to 11 years in prison for distributing meth

A Detroit Lakes man has been sentenced to prison for distributing methamphetamine on the White Earth Reservation.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, 38-year-old Ryan Bergstrom was sentenced to 11 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute methemphetamine. He had pleaded guilty in December.

Court documents and Bergstrom's guilty plea state that law enforcement learned he was brining large quantities of methemphetamine to the White Earth Reservation in July 2019. On Aug. 11, 2019, law enforcement installed a tracking device on Bergstrom's vehicle, and about a week later he was located at a residence near Wadena where he was attempting to dismantle the tracking device.

Authorities responded to the residence and took Bergstrom into custody. Law enforcement also recovered three grams of meth on him and about seven ounces of meth hidden in the back seat of his vehicle, the attorney's office said.

In addition to prison time, Bergstrom was sentenced to five years of supervised release.
