Authorities trace Lakeville bomb threat from May to local kid
Authorities have traced a bomb threat that was emailed to several staff members at a Lakeville school in May to a local juvenile.
Lakeville Police said Monday that, with the help of the Europe Division of the FBI, investigators were able to determine a juvenile in the Lakeville-area community sent the threatening email to staff at Lakeville South High School on May 20. The emails weren’t received by staff until the following morning but led the district to close all buildings and shift students to online learning for the day.
After several hours, authorities determined all buildings were clear and the threat was a hoax.
"The LPD wants parents, students and the community to know everything you do with an electronic device leaves a digital footprint," police said.
The case has been forwarded to the Dakota County Attorney’s Office for charging and a juvenile petition for threats of violence has been secured, according to police.
