1-year-old killed in hit-and-run in Walker; suspect in custody

A 1-year-old died Sunday after a hit-and-run in rural Walker.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a hit-and-run that injured a juvenile on Breezy Point Circle in Shingobee Township at 4:55 p.m.

Deputies arrived and learned a 1-year-old girl had been struck by a vehicle in the driveway of a home. The vehicle then fled before deputies arrived at the scene.

Life-saving efforts were attempted and the girl was then transported to a nearby landing zone where life-saving efforts continued. However, the efforts were unsuccessful and the child was pronounced dead.

While at the scene, the suspect vehicle returned to the area, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies made contact with the driver and took the 28-year-old into custody.

The investigation remains active.
