1 hurt in stabbing at Bloomington light rail station

One person was injured in a stabbing that occurred Tuesday night at a Bloomington light rail station.

The Bloomington Police Department says officers were called just after 9:40 p.m. on the report of a stabbing at the 28th Avenue Transit Station.

When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old man with several stab wounds. He was later taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.

The suspect, identified as a 31-year-old man, was arrested a short time later and is currently in custody at the Bloomington jail.

In February, the Met Council announced new measures to increase safety on Metro Transit buses and trains.

They authorized $1.8 million for up to 20,000 hours of additional overtime for Transit Police.

There are 140 full-time officers on the force, and 50 part-timers that would be eligible to work more hours.

Metro Transit Police says aggravated assault numbers are actually significantly lower in 2020 compared to this time last year. A chart of the monthly data provided by Metro Transit Police can be seen below.
