WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: Light snow expected Monday, heavier snow coming Tuesday

Ready or not, here it comes! KSTP Meteorologist Nicole Mitchell said two separate waves will hit the metro on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday, the system will keep the temps in the 30s, about 20 degrees below average for this time of year. While some snow will fall throughout the afternoon, not much is expected to accumulate on Monday, Mitchell said.

Tuesday will be a different story.

A new system will bring heavier snow across the state. While southern Minnesota will have mostly rain, the metro could get between one and three inches of snow while north of the metro is expected to get a heavier dose, with up to five inches of snow possible. That wave will hit the metro area by late morning to midday.

Because of the winter-like weather that is expected, the Minnesota Department of Transportation encourages motorists check road conditions before traveling.

As for the rest of the week, we’ll warm up back into the 40s with a 50-degree day expected on Thursday, although the warmer day will bring some showers with it. The weekend looks to be back in the 30s.
