Thunderstorms possible in Twin Cities Friday afternoon; storms to continue through night in northern, central part of state

Thunderstorms are moving into the state on Friday.
KSTP Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas says a few showers and thunderstorms are possible in the Twin Cities Friday afternoon. More severe thunderstorms are expected in eastern North Dakota before they make their way into Minnesota.
Yuhas added the thunderstorms will be stronger Friday evening across the state and the storms have the capability of producing 60-plus mph winds, large hail, heavy rain and a possibility of tornadoes. The system will move along a line from Bemidji to Alexandria around 9 p.m. The leading edge of the thunderstorms will then move into a line from Brainerd to St. Cloud by 10 p.m., and Hibbing to Duluth and northwestern Wisconsin by 11 p.m.
Possibly severe thunderstorms will then make its way to the Twin Cities, as well as Willmar, Redwood Falls, Mankato and Rochester areas after midnight and continue into early Saturday morning.
According to Yuhas, it will be hot and humid starting Friday and lasting through the weekend, with highs ranging between 85 and 90 degrees.
