Severe weather possible Friday afternoon, evening

An outbreak of severe thunderstorms could make its way across Minnesota Friday afternoon and evening, according to KSTP Meteorologist Johnathan Yuhas.

Yuhas said the storms will develop in hot, humid air in the areas of Brainerd, Willmar and Redwood Falls around 3 p.m. Those storms could move east toward St. Cloud, Hutchinson and Mankato around 5 p.m.

Those storms will reach the Twin Cities area after 6 p.m. and could last in the area until 9 p.m.

Yuhas said the storms have the potential to produce strong winds, large hail, intense lightning and flash flooding.

In north-central Minnesota, an alert was issued Friday for numerous counties due to minor street flooding that occurred after rainfall.
