Severe thunderstorm watch expected Sunday afternoon

Sunday will continue being wet with a non-severe thunderstorm coming into the Twin Cities from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., but then a severe thunderstorm watch will develop after, according to KSTP Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas.

Yuhas says that additional thunderstorms that may be severe will develop after 3 p.m. and it’s expected to have gusty winds, hail, heavy downpours and tornadoes.

The highest tornado risk is around 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. from the south metro suburbs including Scott County (Prior Lake, Savage, Shakopee), Dakota County ( Lakeville, Burnsville, Eagan, Apple Valley, Rosemount ) and along a line from Le Sueur to Northfield to Red Wing and points south including Mankato, Owatonna and Rochester.

Going into next week, the weather will continue to be wet with rain and expected thunderstorms spreading throughout the days. Although, the temperatures will continue to rise with temperatures expecting to be into the high 70s.
