A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for a wide swath of Minnesota stretching from Bemidji to just north of the Twin Cities.
According to KSTP Meterologist Jonathan Yuhas, severe thunderstorms with damaging winds are possible in the Twin Cities overnight, but the area with the greatest risk is along a line from Fargo to Brainerd and east to Duluth. That risk area could extend as far south as St. Cloud.
Some hail is possible, particularly along the Minnesota-North Dakota border, and there is a very slight risk of rapidly forming tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS has also issued an excessive heat warning for central and southern Minnesota that’s set to go in effect 11 a.m.Saturday morning and last through 9 p.m. Extreme heat and humidity could drive heat index values up to 108.
