Heavy rain expected in the state Tuesday afternoon and evening could create flash flooding.

KSTP Chief Morning Meteorologist Ken Barlow said most of the Twin Cities could see an inch or two of rain by the time storms taper off Wednesday.

Barlow said leftover moisture from what was Tropical Storm Cristobal is moving north, bringing downpours to areas east of the metro, including most of western Wisconsin. He added some areas could see up to four inches of rain by Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service stated a flash flood watch will be in effect Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning.

According to the alert, affected areas will see periods of heavy, accumulating rain.
