More than 200 crashes reported in Minnesota as snow causes slippery roads

More than 200 crashes were reported in Minnesota as a snowstorm created slick conditions Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
Between 9 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday, the Minnesota State Patrol received reports of 60 crashes, including 7 with injuries, as well as 79 vehicles that had spun out or left the road.

The State Patrol also reported from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday of 148 crashes, including 15 with injuries, as well as 104 vehicles that had spun out or left the road and three jackknifed semis.

According to KSTP Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas, the snowstorm is expected to continue into Sunday morning across central and southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
Yuhas says the accumulation is expected to be about 3 to 6 inches for central and southern Minnesota. As for the Twin Cities, 4 inches is expected and 6 inches or more is possible near Mankato and Redwood Falls.

There will also be some gusty northeast winds, which may cause the blowing of snow near the Minnesota/Iowa border.

According to Yuhas, the next possible snowfall is expected Jan. 27 into Jan. 28.

The weekend temperatures are expected to be in the low 20s for the high, while the low on Saturday is 19 degrees and Sunday is 8 degrees.
Going into next week, temperatures are expected to remain in the 20s but warm up starting on Friday and into the following weekend.
