Those who reside in the Twin Cities will experience the hottest day of the year so far on Monday.

KSTP Morning Meteorologist Ken Barlow said temperatures will reach the mid-90s for highs across the metro. Winds are also expected to gust up to 30 mph at times throughout the day.

Barlow added that the heat index should hover around the mid-90s and won’t reach the 100s, due to humidity dropping as the day goes on.

Multiple counties in western and southern Minnesota are in near-critical fire weather conditions for a majority of the afternoon into the evening.

The National Weather Service Twin Cities advised those in the metro to stay hydrated and take breaks from the heat when possible.

The southern part of the state will also see temperatures within the same range as the metro. Up north, highs will range from around 85 to 90 degrees.

Then, Tuesday and Wednesday, some scattered thunderstorms will move in and temperatures are expected to drop into the 80s.
