Hot and humid Friday, heat and air quality advisories in place

It will be another hot and humid Friday in Minnesota to kick off the upcoming Fourth of July weekend.

Chief Morning Meteorologist Ken Barlow said a high in the 90s is expected in the metro and the heat is expected to last through the weekend into next week.

The National Weather Service has issued a new heat advisory from 1-8 p.m. in Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties Friday.

The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, wearing lightweight clothing, staying in air-conditioned rooms, and staying out of the sun as much as possible.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency issued an air quality alert for east-central and southeast Minnesota, from noon until 8 p.m. Friday. The alert, due to ozone, affects the metro as well as St. Cloud, Rochester, Winona and the tribal nation of Prairie Island.
