A heat advisory will go into effect Monday as temperatures are expected to rise throughout the state.
Chief Morning Meteorologist Ken Barlow said hazy sunshine will develop after morning rain, and temperatures will rise.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for dozens of counties, stating heat index values up to 102 degrees are expected Monday.
The advisory, in effect from noon to 9 p.m., covers portions of central, east-central, south-central, southeast, southwest and west-central Minnesota.
The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, staying out of the sun, and checking on family, friends and neighbors. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible, the NWS advises.
Young children and pets should not be left unattended in vehicles during extreme heat, the NWS states.
Those who work outside should take precautions, including taking frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Additionally, the NWS advises rescheduling strenuous activities in the early morning or evening.
